The premise
You and your friends went camping this summer.- Alice and Bob bought groceries for $123.75
- Jack and Jill got the camp ground for $86.34
- Tom bought firewood for $15.00
- The twins Lisa & Maggie paid for the canoe rentals: $74.88
- You brought some birthday cake ($23.99) to celebrate the twins birthday
How do you split these expenses easily?
1. Create a bill
- Click on my bills, on the top-right menu.

- Click on "Add new bill"

- Enter "Camping Trip" as the name and "Summer - Twins birthday" for Description

- Click on the Create button. The bill is created and empty (no participants, no expenses, no payments), as seen below.

2. Add participants
- Click on
to add a participant.
- Enter "Me" or your own name, and "1" for party size.

- Click on the "Create" button to add the participant to the bill.

- Repeat for every person or couple or group in the trip.

- The bill now has all participants in it. You're read to add expenses and payments.

3. Enter the expenses
- Click on "New expense".

- Enter "Groceries" in the Description field.

- Enter "123.75" in the column for "Alice & Bob".

- Repeat for all other expenses.

- Click on the exempt box for "Lisa & Maggie" (they shouldn't pay for their own birthday cake!).

The results
Check the results on the "Who owes what?" table to see who owes who!
Expense Pad automatically minimizes the amount of money exchanged between participants!
You can see that "Alice & Bob" and "Jack & Jill" should get money from everyone else, since they contributed the most.
More features
- Every participant can participate in different expenses with different amounts.
- Enter an amount in a cell, and click outside the cell, or another cell, to have the "Who owes what?" table update automatically.
- Re-order expenses by changing their date using the date picker.
- Look at totals of how much each participant has spent.
- Share your bills with others by sending them permalink (the link on the
icon).
